Abstract

This research investigates how the Catholic Church views and responds to Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the framework of faith proclamation, drawing upon the Antiqua et Nova document (2025) as its primary reference. Using a library research method, this article analyzes the influence of AI on Catholic proclamation activities, the moral principles of the Church regarding AI use, and the pastoral guidelines provided in Antiqua et Nova. The study reveals that AI exerts a considerable impact on evangelization activities, particularly through its contribution to developing catechetical content, retrieving official Church texts, and broadcasting the message of faith through digital channels. However, AI also poses risks such as the spread of theologically inaccurate information and the weakening of personal relationships between evangelizers and the faithful. The Antiqua et Nova document articulates three foundational principles to guide AI use: upholding the intrinsic worth of every person, directing technology toward collective well-being, and ensuring that all users bear accountability for their moral choices. The Church firmly asserts that AI should function as a supportive instrument rather than a substitute for human evangelizers. Careful discernment stands as the central principle for the responsible application of AI in pastoral work. This study ultimately concludes that embedding AI within evangelization efforts demands a robust theological and ethical grounding so that technology genuinely advances the Church's mission.
